(Silence for reflection on God’s Word and for self-examination)
Pastor:
People:
O almighty God, merciful Father,
I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess to you all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever
offended you and justly deserved your punishment now and forever. But I am heartily
sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray you of your boundless mercy and
for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of your beloved Son, Jesus
Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor sinful being.
ABSOLUTION OR DECLARATION OF GRACE
Pastor:
People:
Upon this confession, I, by virtue of
my office as a called and ordained
servant of the Word, announce the
grace of God to all of you, and in the
stead and by the command of my
Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all
your sins in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit.
Amen (Please rise)
Liturgist:
People:
In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus
Christ was given to die for us, and
for his sake God forgives us all our
sins. To those who believe in Jesus
Christ he gives the power to become
the children of God and bestows on
them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord,
who has begun this good work in us,
bring it to completion in the day of
our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen (Please rise)
