DAY IN THE LIFE..
DAY IN THE LIFE..
Morning!
I do shift work, so depending on
what day of the week it is I’m either
up at 5am or 8am. Today is my day
on so 5am it is!
My job is really straight forward
but I like the people, I know what
I’m doing and I like to think I’m
respected so I can’t complain at all.
I have a cup of coffee to take with
me, and Emma usually passes me my
packed lunch and a flask to take with
me through the day, I couldn’t really
survive the day without it to be
honest. She is an absolute wonder
that woman, I feel really lucky to
have met her when we were 17 and
somehow convinced her to marry
me!

I’m a delivery goods driver living
in Croydon with my wife Emma
and our two almost grown up
kids Jasmine and Natalie.
up in the same area, so there is a fair
bit of banter as you can imagine.
By 5.45am I’m on the road for the
day with my schedule. I work hard
to provide for my family and that
is really important to me, so if I
ever have one of those days I have
a picture of them in my cab and it
keeps me focused on the bigger
stuff. I’d love to be able to send
Jasmine to university, and Natalie
wants to go to college to learn a
trade so I need to work hard for that.
11am I stop for one of many cups
of coffee, I probably shouldn’t drink
as much as I do but it’s such a
necessary part of my day. By this
point I’m usually pretty starving as
well so I usually have my packed
lunch. Emma always makes this the
night before, lovely sandwiches,
some Walkers Crisps, a kitkat and
maybe a piece of fruit or if I’m really
lucky a bit of pork pie. This never
sees me through the whole day so
I usually stop for a snack along the
road.
By 4pm I’m almost done and starting
to think about getting home. I love
that feeling, I look forward to driving
down our road so much. Emma only
works part-time so she is always in
when I’m back and cooking our tea.
It is Wednesday today, which means
cottage pie, lovely!
After we’ve had something to eat
I usually watch TV, soaps or things
like that and on Thursdays we have a
pub quiz at our local, at the bottom
of the road. Evenings are about
relaxing and having a bit of a laugh,
my brother and his wife and kids
live nearby so someone is always
popping in, or one of the neighbours.
Sometimes they stay for a cuppa,
sometimes we have a couple of pints,
but we always have a good chat and a
laugh.
I occasionally pop to the shops with
Emma late on a Wednesday evening to
do the shopping. We always do this
together, I prefer it when its quiet but
we quite enjoy stocking up, getting the
things we like, maybe one or two nice
things for the kids and some beers for
me!
Bed is by about 12pm, I’m always
knackered by this point, but always
pretty content. I work hard but I feel
lucky and I feel like I’ve really made the
most of what I’ve got.
Thursday Night is
Quiz night at the local
As soon as I’m at the depot I have a
quick catch-up with my boss and the
rest of the guys. We have all known
each other for years, our kids all go
to the same school and we all grew
