Fiscal 2013 MAY 38,000 voices for the vaquita Mexico protects world’s smallest porpoise More than 38,000 people from 127 countries showed their support for the vaquita porpoise by signing an online petition. <strong>WWF</strong> launched the advocacy campaign at the beginning of the year to stop the fisheries bycatch of this critically endangered species. In June, the Mexican government announced a ban on the use of gillnets for shrimp fishing in the vaquita’s upper Gulf of California habitat. 42
