October 9, 2011 PARISH LIBRARY NEWS Examples of books available for checkout from your library: If Jesus Were A Therapist: modern parables for emotional and spiritual health by Philip R. Hengen A therapist is one who is dedicated to helping people improve their lives. In 52 short chapters, Phil Hengen, a deacon and a therapist, has Jesus telling modern parables which Hengen uses to explain common sense principles of emotional and spiritual health. Section Z No One Cries the Wrong Way by Father Joe Kempf This book is for those who have just lost a loved one and those who are dealing with other losses. Father Joe not only gives us a lot to think about, he lays out concrete rituals that can help both individuals and groups, whether children, young adults or adults. Section W 10 Best Gifts for Your Teen by Patt and Steve Saso Combining Patt's expertise as a marriage and family therapist with Steve's experience as a high school educator, the Sasos share personal and professional anecdotes in this dispatch from the parenting trenches, detailing what adolescents want and need from their parents. They stress that parents are the only ones who can offer these ten gifts that make all the difference for their teens. The St. Peter Young Families Group offers social, spiritual and service activities for families with children under school age. A huge thank you to all who donated items to the Haitian Birthing Kit Project. We were able to collect many items that were assembled into the kits last week. Your generosity is deeply appreciated and many women and babies will be given the opportunity to have a cleaner and safer delivery thanks to your donations. Thank you!!! Attention all families!! Beginning this weekend we are starting something new at St. Peter Church on Sundays! Moms and Dads please join us at the 9:00AM Mass with your children and they can bring their own offertory contribution up to the altar. Every week at the 9:00AM Mass, as soon as the song begins during the offertory, your child may bring up any monetary donation that they wish. Some may choose quarters and some may bring up dollars...but all can participate! So, as you put your envelope in the basket for your family still seated in your pew, your child can walk up to the foot of the altar bringing with them their special gift to offer to Jesus in thanksgiving for the many gifts they have received each day! We welcome all children who wish to participate. Ushers will assist your children as needed. Please join us for our fourth annual pumpkin decorating event following the 9:00AM Mass on October 16th. We will walk to the Kirkwood Farmer's Market and purchase pumpkins to decorate. All decorations will be provided by the Young Families Group. We will also provide light snacks for the kids participating. This year we are adding a service component to this event. Please bring a Halloween, non food item, stickers, pencils, small Halloween related toys to donate to Ranken Jordan Pediatric Rehabilitation Center. All donations will be brought to the hospital by the Young Families Group to benefit the therapy and child life services department. We thank everyone in advance for participating in the fun as well as service component of this event! Happy decorating!
