ALUMNI WEEKEND 2009 Alumni Weekend 2009 drew more than 120 alumni and guests, who returned to Penn <strong>Dental</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> May 15-16 to connect with friends and colleagues. This was the reunion year for classes ending in “4” or “9.” Among this year’s activities were two continuing education lectures, including an update on esthetic dentistry by Dr. Markus Blatz, Chair <strong>of</strong> Preventive and Restorative Sciences, and the Dr. Samuel I. Shames and Hilda B. Shames Visiting Lecture with Dr. Myron Allukian (D’64). Student-led tours <strong>of</strong> the <strong>School</strong>, an open house in the Virtual Reality Simulation Lab and the new CAD/CAM Lab, and the traditional Alumni Parade and Alumni Picnic were also part <strong>of</strong> the festivities. Reunion class dinners were held again this year at the Union League <strong>of</strong> Philadelphia. Alumni are reminded to mark their calendars now for Alumni Weekend 2010, which will be held May 14-15, 2010; this will be the reunion year for classes ending in “5” and “0.” 2 4 32 alumni: news Alumni n e w s 1 3 5

Gluch (GR’92), was presented with the <strong>Dental</strong> Hygiene Alumni Special Achievement Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the growth and development <strong>of</strong> the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> <strong>dental</strong> hygiene. The award is given annually by the Penn <strong>Dental</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> <strong>Dental</strong> Hygiene Alumni Association. Dr. Jaclyn M.
