If you interested in writing a Canada-wide Math contest exam to compete against other math students across the country please e-mail Mr. O. Bahia at bahia_o@surreyschools.ca to register! Please note you must be 18 years of age or younger and a full time student at Surrey Connect (this means Surrey Connect is your home school) to write this exam with us. Please send Mr. Bahia the following information: • Title your email "Math Contest" • Your first and last name • Your Surrey Connect student number • Your birthdate • The Surrey Connect Math class you are currently registered in There are three contests to choose from: The Cayley (Grade 10) exam Thursday February 21/2013 4:15pm at Surrey Connect You must register by February 1/2013 by e-mail The Fermat (Grade 11) exam Thursday February 21/2013 4:30pm at Surrey Connect You must register by February 1/2013 by e-mail The Euclid (Grade 12) Wednesday April 17/2013 9:15am at Surrey Connect You must register by March 1/2013 by e-mail If you would like to practice for your contest exam the website below contains previous exams and solutions for you to practice from: http://www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/contests/past_contests.html. You have gone through KINDERGARTEN. We can talk about teenagers’ ANGST. People pump DIESEL into their cars. How you eaten PRETZELS? What about DAS AUTO you see in TV commercials? The English language has borrowed many words from German. So, would you like to learn German? Since the Berlin wall came down in 1989 and East and West Germany were reunited; there has been a steadily growing interest in German language studies as well! You can now take German 10, an introductory course for beginners, and German 11, on-line at Surrey Connect! Both are full credit courses and the completion of German 11 gives you the second language 11 credit for university entrance requirement. The on-line language component is delivered through the award-winning TellMeMore interactive computer program. You will learn to pronounce and speak German through an effective speech recognition technique. Lessons are sent to you, individually matched to fit your needs and progress. You will study and learn at your own pace! Your teacher will monitor your progress closely through the TellMeMore program. For on -going support, you have access to the teacher via e-mail, phone calls or simply by dropping by at Surrey Connect. When you feel that you are ready for the unit test, a meeting with the teacher at Surrey Connect will follow. All tests are on-line and are written at Surrey Connect. At the same time there will be some oral language practice in the form of pronunciation practice, reading, discussions, short presentations, speeches, etc. Are you interested?
