A tradition of excellence in
Research
Our vibrant and growing research program is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in oral
health research, particularly in the oral biology arena. During the 2010–11 fiscal year, college researchers
received more than $16 million in sponsored funding, with extensive support from the prestigious National
Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, part of the National Institutes of Health.
Students and faculty participate in a variety of research activities related to oral health. The college recently
added a D.M.D./Ph.D. program that offers integrated dental and graduate research training culminating in the
awarding of both a D.M.D. and a Ph.D. in biomedical science.
The University of Florida’s Florida Tomorrow Campaign is in its final year.
Thanks to our generous donors, the college has exceeded our $15 million goal,
raising a total of $17,361,546. Thank you!
Alumni & Friends Fund Clinic Renovation
Gifts will create a new home for clinical care and education in Periodontology and Prosthodontics
Is there anything more generous than giving for the benefit of those who
follow in your footsteps? Alumni and friends of the college have done just
that—with gifts currently totaling more than $500,000 to fund a transformative
nine-month renovation of Clinic 1A into a state-of-the-art periodontology
and prosthodontics graduate clinic. The renovation is scheduled
for completion in July 2012, just in time for the 2012 periodontology and
prosthodontics residents to begin their graduate programs.
Started almost ten years ago, these projects gained traction with leadership
from the Department of Periodontology and gifts from alumni and friends.
Renovation plans include a redesigned clinic located on the first floor of the
dental tower close to the specialty clinics of the newly established School of
Advanced Dental Sciences.
The new facilities will include surgical suites named for lead donors,
including Gerald Kluft, D.D.S., and Geraldine Ferris, D.M.D. Their gifts,
along with ongoing support from many other contributors and a $200,000
gift from Biomet 3I, made this project possible. The combined graduate
clinics of periodontology and prosthodontics will enhance interdisciplinary
learning and will also include modern ceramic and removable prosthodontic
laboratories. All contributors will be recognized in the renovated facilities.
To see the blueprints and more design images, to learn how to support this
project or to view the names of everyone who has made a gift, please visit our
website at dental.ufl.edu/clinic-renovation-2012/.
