Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG)<br />

OSG owns or manages a<br />
variety of tonnage, including the three<br />
out of four of the world’s largest remaining<br />
ULCCs of 440,000 dwt each.<br />
Two are on storage duties, while the other is<br />
still trading. In total, OSG boasts 124 vessels,<br />
including wholly-owned and bareboat<br />
chartered tonnage.<br />
Broken down into vessel types, these<br />
include three ULCCs, 14 VLCCs, plus<br />
two newbuildings; two Suezmaxes; 20<br />
Aframaxes, plus two newbuildings (includes<br />
the lighterage fleet); 13 Panamxes, plus two<br />
newbuildings; 46 Handysize, plus three<br />
newbuildings (includes the US flag fleet);<br />
one newbuilding chemical carrier; one car<br />
carrier; 10 articulated tug barge (ATB)<br />
combinations, plus one newbuilding and<br />
four LNGCs.<br />
Nine of the 11 newbuildings are wholly<br />
owned.<br />
Last year, OSG moved the commercial<br />
management of its LNGC fleet, previously<br />
managed as a standalone business unit, to<br />
the company's international product carrier<br />
and gas strategic business unit.<br />
OSG said that this move reflected the<br />
recent focus on its three core segments -<br />
crude oil, products and US flag - while<br />
ensuring that the LNG business was<br />
optimally managed.<br />

has shot up the rankings due to the<br />
deliveries of two VLCCs and 10 Aframaxes in<br />
the past 12 months.<br />
This gives the Singapore-based concern<br />
13 VLCCs, one Suezmax, 59 Aframaxes,<br />
one Panamax and nine product carriers of<br />
various sizes.<br />
Not stopping there, AET has another four<br />
VLCCs, four Suezmaxes, four Aframaxes,<br />
two dynamic positioning shuttle tankers and<br />
one product carrier still to come, which<br />
should propel the company into the top five<br />
next year.<br />

OSG owns a considerable number of Jones Act tankers.<br />
Sovcomflot Group (SCF)<br />
(11.02 mill dwt, plus 2.07 mill dwt newbuildings)<br />
Taking SCF’s tanker fleet, the<br />

Russian giant controls 132 vessels and<br />
has another 19 on order. In addition, the group<br />
controls eight LNGCs and two LPG carriers.<br />
<strong>The</strong> in-service tanker fleet includes 12<br />
coastal/small vessels, 10 Handysize tankers,<br />
30 MRs, six Panamaxes (including five ice<br />
class shuttles), 48 Aframaxes (including two<br />
ice class shuttles) and 18 Suezmaxes.<br />
Still to come are two VLCCs, seven<br />
Aframaxes and four Panamaxes (LR1s).<br />
<strong>The</strong> company claims to be No 1 in MR,<br />
SCF is No 1 in Arctic shuttle tankers.<br />
Arctic shuttle tanker and ice class LNGC<br />
operation and No 2 in Aframaxes and MRs.<br />
In February, it was announced that SCF had<br />
purchased six Aframax shuttle tankers from<br />
Primorsk Shipping. <strong>The</strong>y are each fitted for<br />
loading at Sakhalin.<br />
In addition to these six vessels, the delivery<br />
of a new Aframax Suvorovsky Prospect (iceclass<br />
1B) and three LR1 product carriers (in<br />
joint ownership with Glencore) in<br />
February/March 2011, will see the Group’s<br />
fleet increase by another 1 mill dwt. <br />
