WELCOME FROM
NEW ZEALAND BLOODSTOCK
On behalf of New Zealand Bloodstock Ltd,
welcome to Ellerslie for the 2012 Karaka
Million Twilight Meeting.
With New Zealand’s richest race as the
highlight, tonight we will showcase
the very best that the New Zealand
thoroughbred industry has to offer while
welcoming all our prospective buyers to
Auckland and launching the Karaka Sales
Week in style.
A special welcome to all our international
guests who have come from far and wide,
amongst them some of the leading owners, trainers, bloodstock
agents and thoroughbred enthusiasts in the world.
This time last year, the 14 runners in today’s feature event were
yearlings poised to go through the Karaka sales ring. They
varied in purchase price from $5,000 to $170,000 and in a few
short months they are here lining up for a share of a one million
dollar prize pool.
Tomorrow the first of 1444 horses catalogued for sale over
the next seven days will go through the ring at 10am and we
invite you to come and join us at Karaka for this thoroughbred
extravaganza. With an atmosphere to be experienced, from
seasoned campaigners to first-timers everyone is welcome. You
might even find next year’s Karaka Million winner.
PREMIER SALE: 30 & 31 January
SELECT SALE: 1, 2 & 3 February
FESTIVAL SALE: 5 February
Particular thanks to our five major race sponsors today, all elite
thoroughbred operations in their own right: Westbury Stud,
Curraghmore Stud, The Oaks Stud, Cambridge Stud and NZB
Insurance.
Thanks to the fantastic team at Auckland Racing Club for all
their hard work to bring this race meeting to fruition for the fifth
year, and thanks also to our Karaka vendors for entrusting us
with their valuable young thoroughbreds. We wish you the very
best of luck for the week ahead.
To our Minister for Racing Nathan Guy, Karaka Million
connections, buyers, sellers and racegoers, thank you for
supporting this exciting event and we look forward to seeing
you at Karaka.
