Since 2007, Barney has been working on another huge film project, River of Fundament, which is due to be completed this year. But the simple act of putting pen or pencil to paper may actually be at the core of the artist’s practice, as this show at the Morgan Library—the first museum exhibition to examine Barney’s works on paper—suggests. “Drawings are very important to him in the process of working,” says the curator, Isabelle Dervaux. “Especially more recently, when he is done with a production, he continues to explore the theme in drawing.” Included are around 100 works spanning the artist's career to date.
