DETERMINE THE TOTAL SURFACE AREA
AFFECTED AND AMOUNT OF MATERIAL REMOVED.
TINE SELECTION GUIDE
STEP ONE
The first step is to find holes per square foot.
If you know your lateral and forward spacing, find holes
per square foot on the Holes Per Square Metre table.
Example:
Lateral Spacing = 5.1 cm
Forward Spacing = 5.1 cm
Holes Per Square Metre = 384.5
If you are not sure of your forward and lateral spacing, but know your aerator model
number go to the Pick A Model table and pick your spacing options. This table will also
help you determine the proper turf holder based on your tine configuration.
STEP TWO
To determine the total surface area affected and volume of soil removed when aerating,
reference the Percent Surface Area Affected/Volume Removed table. All you need to
know is holes per square metre, core diameter (ID), and the depth* at which you are
aerating.
Example:
Holes Per Square Metre = 384.5
Core Diameter = 0.8 cm
Depth = 7.6 cm
Percent Surface Area Affected = 1.79%
Volume Removed = 0.133 cubicmetres per 100 square metres
* Tine depth can vary based on machine set-up.
