I’m writing this and getting very excited already about the 2015 Wiggle Dragon
Ride. At Human Race we have many events across various sports but this one
has a special place in our organisational heart. It’s a phenomenal event in the
British cycling calendar, being notoriously tough on stunning terrain with 1,000s
of people wanting to say they’ve ‘slayed the dragon’ each year. Climbs such as
have inspired
the Dragon legend such that entries tend to go within a day.
As the cycling market has evolved in terms of ability and adventure over the past
years, we’ve developed the Dragon legend to include the Dragon Devil distance
with places selling in two hours in it’s inception year in 2014. We’ve now added
for people wishing to do more days; a three day Dragon
sportive bonanza across South Wales, ending with a VIP experience at the
Dragon Ride – Tour de France winner Stephen Roche has decided to join up with
500 of you for this also.
As ever, we couldn’t deliver this scale of event and experience without a lot of
help. This gives me the opportunity to thank a few people. Firstly to Lou
Lusardi, who founded and delivered the event for it’s first 8 years - a
Welsh/Italian cycling visionary. Our partner Wiggle for their continued support
as well as other partners who all add to the rider experience. Then to the host
councils, and Margam Park for accommodating 1,000s of cyclists on your roads
and for your continued support of the event. We also have expert support
around the event from St John Ambulance, the Moto Marshals, stewards and
volunteers all helping deliver safe roads for our cyclists. We thank you.
Finally, through the event £100,000s have been raised for charity and in 2015 we
hope as many of you as possible choose to support Macmillan Cancer Support,
our official charity partner.
We look forward to seeing the cycling community come together as ever in
South Wales in 2015 and hope to see you there.
