Assistant or Associate
Professor —- Commercial
Small Fruits/Vegetables
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University. 12 month tenure track,
Extension, Research position, beginning
August 1, 2000. The successful candidate will be
responsible for developing and conducting
extension educational programs relating to small
fruit and vegetable production, and developing a
strong working relationship with the small
fruit/vegetable industry in Virginia and the
region. The successful candidate will also
conduct a well-focused, scholarly research
program in the area of small fruits or vegetable
production, and generate external funding.
Involvement in graduate student training is
expected. A PhD in horticul-ture or closely
related plant science discipline is required.
Experience with small fruits and/or vegetable
production is desirable as well as experience with
marketing horticultural crops. Salary will be
commensurate with experience and training.

Modern Analytical Methods
for Food and Beverage
Authentication
This event will take place from August 31 till
September 2, 2000 in Lednice, Czech Republic
and is organised within the 5 th Framework
Programme of the European Commission. The
aim of this event is a presentation of new
analytical methods used in food and authenticity
control. The focus will be concentrated on
modern analytical methods accompanied by
classical procedures used in authentication of
foods and beverages. Following scientific sessions
are suggested: 1. Sample preparation, 2.
Authenticity by isotopic methods, 3. methods of
molecular biology and 4. data mining and
statistics.
