The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Stirling</strong> is home to leading researchers<br />

Our<br />
heritage<br />
<strong>Stirling</strong> was the first new university in Scotland for nearly<br />
400 years. Since its found<strong>at</strong>ion, <strong>Stirling</strong> has embraced its<br />
role as an innov<strong>at</strong>ive, intellectual and cultural institution<br />
with an established reput<strong>at</strong>ion for blending arts and science.<br />

<strong>Stirling</strong>’s co<strong>at</strong> <strong>of</strong> arms d<strong>at</strong>es back to 1967 when we were<br />
granted university st<strong>at</strong>us by Royal Charter.<br />
We have our own tartan called ‘<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Stirling</strong>’, th<strong>at</strong><br />
students, staff and gradu<strong>at</strong>es <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> are entitled<br />
to wear.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> popul<strong>at</strong>ion has grown from 164<br />
undergradu<strong>at</strong>e students and 31 postgradu<strong>at</strong>es in 1967 to<br />
8,800 undergradu<strong>at</strong>es and 3,500 postgradu<strong>at</strong>es in 2012.
