A Message from the Dean Dear Alumni and Friends: I am delighted to share with you this Annual Report of Philanthropy, highlighting your generosity as donors and volunteers. Your gifts to Hastings are instrumental to the growth and quality of our programs. Thank you! Your gifts this past year helped Hastings to complete our beautiful new library, to provide new scholarships to our students, to support our faculty’s research, and to endow a new professorship. We were also able to sponsor conferences and speakers on the major issues of the day and support our student organizations, law journals, and moot court programs. And these are only a few of the programs and activities made possible by our generous alumni and friends. This is an exciting time for Hastings. We added four new faculty members this year and plan to expand our faculty in the coming years to address our historically low student-faculty ratio. With your help and ongoing support, we are taking our great law school to the next level. Your gift was part of the $4.35 million contributed by the Hastings community during the fiscal year July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007. Most of these gifts were from individuals, including alumni, dedicated faculty, and generous friends. Even current students, who face increasing tuition and living expenses, recognize the value of their Hastings education—more than 60 percent of the graduating class chose to donate to the law school. Other donations from law firms, foundations, and organizations continue Hastings’ longstanding tradition of excellence in legal education. As a Hastings alumna, I am proud to be part of the past, present, and future of Hastings. Our history is a proud one, our present is strong, and our future is unlimited.
