encouraging children and adolescents to live a healthy life. Over the next ten<br />
years, we there<strong>for</strong>e promise to:<br />
a) Reduce by at least a third the rate at which children under one and under five<br />
die.This will help us reach our goal <strong>of</strong> reducing it by two-thirds by 2015.<br />
b) Reduce by at least a third the rate at which women die while giving birth.This<br />
will help us to reach our goal <strong>of</strong> reducing it by three-quarters by 2015.<br />
c) Reduce by at least a third the number <strong>of</strong> children under five years <strong>of</strong> age who<br />
do not get enough to eat, with special attention given to children under two<br />
years <strong>of</strong> age. Also, to reduce the number <strong>of</strong> babies born who weigh too little<br />
by at least one-third.<br />
d) Reduce by one-third the number <strong>of</strong> households who do not have access to<br />
safe and low-cost drinking water and clean toilet facilities.<br />
e) Create and put into practice national policies and programmes <strong>for</strong> young<br />
children that will make sure children’s physical, social, emotional, spiritual and<br />
mental development is significantly better than be<strong>for</strong>e.<br />
f) Develop and put into practice national health policies and programmes with<br />
goals and measures to promote the physical and mental health <strong>of</strong> adolescents.<br />
g) Everyone <strong>of</strong> an appropriate age will have access to reproductive health<br />
through healthcare systems.This will happen as soon as possible and no later<br />
than 2015.<br />
