A week earlier the foundation celebrated<br />
the upcoming festival with its fifth<br />
annual Garden Party, which netted a<br />
record $57,000 — more than $16,000<br />
above the previous year’s net proceeds.<br />
Cochaired once again by Mary Holleran<br />
and Katherine Lovell, the party was<br />
hosted for the fifth time by Jennifer and<br />
Bob McNeil at their Springbank Farm.<br />
More than 400 guests enjoyed a light<br />
supper, cocktails, the popular “Battle of<br />
the Berries at <strong>Brandywine</strong>” restaurant<br />
dessert contest and fireworks.<br />

To honor the McNeils, the foundation<br />
announced during the party that it<br />
was establishing the McNeil Children’s<br />
Lending Library in the waiting room<br />
of the new <strong>Brandywine</strong> <strong>Health</strong> &<br />
Housing Center. To encourage reading<br />
among children who have limited<br />
access to books, the library will lend<br />
books to children who come to<br />
the center with their families. The<br />
Outreach Committee from Freedom<br />
Village Retirement Community is<br />
coordinating book donations.<br />

To support start-up of a Federally Qualified<br />
<strong>Health</strong> Center in the city of Coatesville to<br />
provide primary care services to people of all<br />
ages and incomes, with a focus on the<br />
uninsured and underinsured.<br />
$225,000 to Chester County<br />
Community Dental<br />
To continue to reach out to a growing number<br />
of patients, hire a new executive director,<br />
develop a strategic plan for the future and<br />
prepare to move into the new <strong>Brandywine</strong><br />
<strong>Health</strong> & Housing Center in early 2008.<br />
$15,000 to Community Volunteers in<br />
Medicine<br />
To serve approximately 1,300 patients from<br />
the foundation’s service area with primary<br />
and dental care, largely provided by volunteer<br />
practitioners in CVIM’s West Chester location.<br />
$10,000 to Family Service of Chester<br />
County<br />
To expand, for the fifth year, bilingual,<br />
bicultural counseling services from one day to<br />
one-and-a-half days per week on a slidingscale<br />
fee basis at the Family Service office in<br />
the Coatesville Center for Community <strong>Health</strong>.<br />
$15,000 to La Comunidad Hispana’s<br />
Project Salud<br />
To serve approximately 110 patients from the<br />
Coatesville area who travel to Kennett Square<br />
to be seen by experienced staff at this fully<br />
bilingual, bicultural, nurse-managed health<br />
center.<br />
$30,000 to Planned Parenthood of<br />
Chester County<br />
To provide family planning services,<br />
gynecological care and HIV+ primary care to<br />
more than 2,200 patients from the greater<br />
Coatesville area.<br />

SERVICES, OUTREACH AND<br />
ADVOCACY<br />
$15,000 to Center for the Blind and<br />
Visually Impaired<br />
For the second year, to expand services from<br />
Delaware County into Chester County.<br />
$10,000 to Center on Hearing and<br />
Deafness<br />
For the third year, for outreach and advocacy<br />
for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community<br />
with health care providers in central and<br />
western Chester County.<br />
$20,000 to Chester County <strong>Health</strong><br />
Department Nurse-Family Partnership<br />
To provide intensive parenting and home-visit<br />
assistance to first-time teen mothers as part<br />
of a national program with documented<br />
positive outcomes in reducing the number<br />
of low-birth-weight babies and promoting<br />
healthy parenting of children in low-income,<br />
high-risk families.<br />
$6,500 to Coatesville Area Senior<br />
Center<br />
To fund a wide range of exercise programs,<br />
including the ongoing fall prevention series,<br />
and the PACE/PACENET/Medicare Part D<br />
prescription assistance program at this senior<br />
center in Coatesville that serves more than<br />
2,200 seniors a year.<br />
$10,000 to Coatesville Center for<br />
Community <strong>Health</strong><br />
For a collaborative effort to coordinate<br />
bilingual health and social services provided<br />
in the center’s building.<br />
$5,000 to Delaware Valley<br />
Grantmakers<br />
To participate in a collaborative of health<br />
foundations exploring ways to more effectively<br />
treat behavioral health problems in lowincome<br />
populations through the integration of<br />
behavioral health services in primary care<br />
settings, such as ChesPenn <strong>Health</strong> Services.<br />
