A Birthday
to Remember!
The Tattoo is pleased to announce
the 90th Birthday of
Tattoo Props Manager, Patricia
Martinson. She has run the Prop
Shop for the last 12 years but she’s
been lending a hand with the Tattoo
for 21 years! If you don’t know
Patricia, you would definitely
know her handiwork. From the
First World War gun she recreated
to the long, graceful trumpets she
made out of toilet plungers, Patricia
is a creative genius with Tattoo
props. “I’m a very key part to the
show. I’m not a chicken anymore,
I’m an old hen…in my 90th year,”
she beams, “I have a certain pride
in the gun, but most of all the Tattoo!”
The Prop Shop is run with
military precision and on a similar
kind of schedule. Born in Ireland,
Patricia Martinson spent 5 years in
the Canadian Air Force and 19 in
the merchant marines. As amusing
as working on such a show can
be, Martinson knows she plays an
important role in the whole production.
She says she learned the
value of teamwork from watching
drill teams when she was a teenager,
“One person goes wrong, it
can spoil the effect of the whole
manoeuvar.” And Martinson is
certainly not the type to have anything
go wrong.
