The Modern Foreign Languages Department
The Modern Foreign Languages Department at St Bees School consists of two full-time teachers, one part-time
teacher, and at least one Language Assistant. Currently, French is taught from the First Form through to A Level,
and Spanish is introduced to pupils in the Third Form and continues through to A Level.
The Department is housed in the relatively new ‘Whitelaw Building’ and has two well equipped classrooms with the
facility of interactive materials being used via laptops and data projectors. There is also a language laboratory in the
Department, which is a little dated, but plans are in place for an upgrade of this facility in due course.
The successful candidate would be expected to teach Spanish through to A Level and the Department currently
follow the AQA examination specifications at both GCSE and A Level. The Department utilises Mira and Animo as
key course books.
The ability to teach French would be desirable but not essential. Future plans to actively recruit pupils in Spain are
being explored, and this could create a number of exciting possibilities for the successful candidate.
A willingness to contribute to the organisation of foreign study visits would be desirable.
