In essense, this was my initial encounter<br />
with the reassuring "whisper of wings".<br />
The years pass rapidly, now...<br />
as I journey through the old film clips.<br />
that make up my memories.<br />
As the speed of these passing events begins to slow,<br />
I find myself upon yet another mountain plateau, of sorts.<br />
I once again encounter an ever-increasing feeling<br />
of apprehension and indecision, as I stand<br />
at one of the crossroads of life,<br />
attempting to decide upon which particular path to follow.<br />
Again, my jumbled thoughts are racing in many directions.<br />
and I feel that I am "out of control" and very much.. .alone.<br />
I close my eyes, desperately hoping to regain control of my emotions<br />
.Apprehension turns to paranoia, due to not knowing what to do...<br />
Which path to follow...<br />
and then, I hear it, again...<br />
Very softly, at first, as before,<br />
but nevertheless still very much evident...<br />
that whisper, again.<br />
I immediately recognize the sound, and remember where<br />
I've heard it before.<br />
I expectantly scan the sky overhead, in search of<br />
my "old mentor," the eagle.<br />
But the eagle is no where to be found.<br />
Instead, the source of the whisper is.. .you!<br />
And again, it's not so much words,<br />
but rather the underlying message...<br />
the essence of which could be summed up as:<br />
"Slow down.. .take your time.<br />
Live, and experience life, to its fullest.<br />
Don't fear. You are not alone. I am here now.<br />
.With faith, trust, and the belief that we<br />
can accomplish whatever we set out to do,<br />
and by relying on one another,<br />
we'll soar high above and attain<br />
what others only dream of accomplishing."<br />
Once again, my fears have diminished<br />
and I realize that this was but another encounter with<br />
the "whisper of wings"...<br />
A whisper which perhaps originates from somewhere<br />
deep within ourselves<br />
- But for now, we have returned to the present.<br />
It's quiet again. So very, very quiet.<br />
There is no movement, no sound, deep inside each one of us.<br />
Only the searing pain that cuts so deeply<br />
And makes us all afraid...<br />
Afraid that we"ll never, ever, be able to stop<br />
the bleeding, or make the hurt<br />
go away.<br />

But close your eyes.. .and listen very quietly...<br />
Not with your ears...<br />
Listen with your heart<br />
Can you hear it? It's there...<br />
It will begin very softly, at first...<br />
But if you listen closely enough.. .You"ll hear it...<br />
That whisper...<br />
reassuring us that everything will be all right.<br />
The elusive, magical answers that we seek for those overworked<br />
questions, that we ask ourselves during times such as these<br />
exist deep within each one of us...<br />
Sometimes all we need is a little help to find them.<br />
It doesn't mean that we'll never be afraid again,<br />
But when it does happen<br />
Just close your eyes...<br />
and listen for...<br />
