from the present date for all pastors who have held their pastorates<br />
for five years or more and for others when they reach the end <strong>of</strong> a<br />
five year period starting June 1st, 1950.<br />
4. It is recommended that the Presbyteries in their supervision<br />
<strong>of</strong> congregations keep in mind these recommendations <strong>of</strong> <strong>Synod</strong>.<br />
5. That moving expenses up to $250.00 <strong>of</strong> a minister who has<br />
completed a term and has not been requested to remain for another<br />
five year period, be paid by the Home Mission Board. This item<br />
does not apply to ministers who may be moving to a church <strong>of</strong><br />
another denomination.<br />
6. That the provision made by <strong>Synod</strong> <strong>of</strong> 1945 as recorded on<br />
page 50 <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Minutes</strong> <strong>of</strong> that meeting be amended to read as<br />
follows:<br />
"Licensed or ordained ministers serving the church as pastors<br />
or supplying pulpits, or laboring in our mission fields, or teaching<br />
in our institutions, or in the direct employ <strong>of</strong> our church, or in work<br />
especially approved by the church, who have attained 70 years <strong>of</strong><br />
age and have labored in one or more <strong>of</strong> these fields for a total <strong>of</strong><br />
35 years shall be entitled to retire from continuous active service<br />
and to receive a pension <strong>of</strong> $50.00 per month for the remainder <strong>of</strong><br />
their lives, without application for aid, the amount to be increased<br />
$5.00 for each additional five years <strong>of</strong> service. Any minister, however,<br />
who receives a pension from another source within the church<br />
or its subsidiary agencies or institutions shall not be eligible for<br />
a pension under this provision unless the pension he receives is<br />
less than that herein provided for, in which case he shall be entitled<br />
to receive such amount as shall be necessary to make his<br />
total pension equivalent to that herein provided."<br />
7. That those for whom the church has made, or may yet make,<br />
some provision for insurance (<strong>Minutes</strong> 1939, page 100) shall receive<br />
in addition the difference between the amount thus paid by<br />
the church, and the regular pension.<br />
8. That the retired minister shall have the privilege <strong>of</strong> taking<br />
occasional preaching appointments, and the remuneration shall be<br />
his.<br />
9. That pensions herein provided shall be paid from the Ministerial<br />
Relief Fund, and all matters pertaining thereto shall be under<br />
the direction <strong>of</strong> the Board <strong>of</strong> Control.<br />
10. That provisions for pensions herein contained become effective<br />
July 1st, <strong>1948</strong>.<br />
11. That <strong>Synod</strong> urge vacant congregations and candidates to<br />
deal promptly and frankly with each other in attempting to reach<br />
an understanding.<br />
