course for Stuart Lucas's 19th birthday dinner.
It was in Putlingcn. Germany. right after
his 1/276 had crossed the Saar. It was almost as
much fun as he had when he arranged to give
food and gifts to the little kids of Witzcnhauscn
at Christmastimc in 1945.

He volunteered for infantry duty, did Larry
Shultz, D/274. He joined the Army in '42 and
earned the Asia-Pacific Theater ribbon up in
Alaska. He still winces at the thought of the
voyage to Anchorage in a cattle ship. He joined
the 70th at Adair. A carpenter by trade . Larry
and his wife Barbara have five children and II
grandkids.

You 've undoubtedly * heard about the great
Detroit Renaissance that brought new life to the
shabby downtown area of Detroit. Maybe you
even saw the Grand Prix race through citycenter
streets this summer. Well, one of our
guys was involved.
Harold Bellamy, H/274, is head planner for
the city.
Before joining the 70th at Adair. he had
served with a transportation unit in New Orleans,
in the staging area at Vancouver, Washington
and the MPs in Oakland, California
The good memories come back, he says:
VE-Day, shell racing at Rudisheim, recon trips
to Mainz and Koblcnz. And the uncomfortable
ones, too: Christmas Eve at Bischweiler, transporting
victims from concentration camps,
driving his jeep over a mined road in Behren,
Germany.
He's a member of the Urban Planning Institute
and the American Theater Organ Society.
His wife Arlene died last winter. They had
three children.
