"Three and a half years ago, I borrowed
$200 to allow me to expand my tortilla
business. I make high quality flour and
whole grain tortillas that I sell for $1 a
dozen.
I make and sell 70 dozen tortilla packs
per day. My costs are about $30 for the
70 dozen, so I make about $40 per day.
I employ one woman on an hourly basis
and our work is completed before noon.
By comparison, my husband works all
day at a factory in Nogales and he makes
$7 a day.
The extra income we have from my
business allows our four children to go
to school, my family to eat healthy meals
every day, and we have made some
important improvements in our home".
