Track Policy 

1. No smoking in grandstand. 

2. Be courteous to fans seated around you. 

3. Concessions are on a $1 system. Change booths are 

located in front of the grandstand by the novelty stand 

and by the gate 2 entrance. 

4. Birthday and other announcements should be 

brought to the novelty stand not the announcers’ 

booth. 

5. Blankets must be removed at the end of the racing 

program. They may not be placed in the top three 

rows of covered grandstand. The track takes no responsibility 

for lost or missing blankets. Blanket owner 

must “use it or lose it” by the end of warm-ups. 

6. Winner Circle presentations – the official VIP hostess 

will escort the speedway VIP sponsor of the night 

across the track to victory lane. Media persons with 

track credentials may cross the track to victory lane. No 

other person should cross the track to victory lane at 

this time. Anyone who would like team/family photos 

should go to the photo booth, located in front of the 

grandstand, and make arrangements to have photos 

taken after the racing program is completed for the 

evening.

WoO Late Models to visit Fonda

FONDA — There is nothing like 

the excitement which is built up by 

a first time visit to a race track by a 

series of race cars 

that have never 

competed at that 

particular race 

track before. That 

will be the case on Wednesday, 

June 19 when the World of Outlaw 

Late Model Series will visit the 

“Track of Champions” Fonda 

Speedway for the first time. 

Also on the schedule that evening 

will be the modified division which 

will be competing in a 30-lap feature 

event. On Wednesday, June 19 

the pit gates will open at 4:00 p.m. 

while the front gates will open at 

5:00 p.m. General admission for 

adults will be $30 while ages 6-11 

will be $3.00 and ages 1-5 will be 

free.

World of Outlaw Late Model Series 

which is on their website 

www.woolms.com the World of 

Outlaws Late Model Series is the 

nation's premier traveling tour for 

dirt Late Model stock cars. A 

cousin of the longer-running World 

of Outlaws series for winged Sprint 

Cars that was founded by the late 

Ted Johnson in 1978, the World of 

Outlaw Late Model Series first ran 

in 1988-89 under the direction of 

Johnson. The series sat dormant 

until being rekindled in 2004 by 

the World Racing Group and has 

grown in each season since then to 

take its place as the most competitive 

and lucrative tour for dirt Late 

Model racers. 

A dirt Late Model is a full-bodied, 

purpose-built race car that 

headlines arguably the most popular 

dirt-track division in the U.S. 

and Canada. 

There is no cubic inch limit for 

the aluminum-head engines, but 

most teams use power plants of 

400-430 cubic inches that produce 

over 800 horsepower. Dozens of 

builders construct dirt Late Model 

chassis, and the bodies of the cars 

are designed to resemble popular 

street-car makes from manufacturers 

such as Chevrolet, Ford, Pontiac, 

etc. The cars weigh 2,300 

pounds and run on racing gasoline. 

A standard one-day show is headlined 

by a 50-lap A-Main that pays 

$10,000 to win from a total purse 

of around $50,000. 

Only the biggest names in dirt 

Late Model racing have been able 

to join the select group of World of 

Outlaw Late Model Series title 

holders. Arkansas legend Billy 

Moyer holds three championships 

(1988, 1989, 2005); Tennessee's 

Scott Bloomquist won the first 

crown of the tour's modern era in 

2004; New Yorker Tim McCreadie 

came out on top of a titanic six-driver 

battle for the title in 2006; Kentucky's 

Steve Francis broke through 

for his first title in 2007 after finishing 

second in the points standings 

three times; Kentuckian 

Darrell Lanigan set a record for 

largest points margin by a champion 

in 2008 and was crowned 

champion again last year in 2012; 

21-year-old West Virginian Josh 

Richards became the youngest 

champ in series history in 2009 and 

then backed it up in 2010 by putting 

himself in the record books as 

the only repeat champion since the 

World Racing Group began operating 

the series in 2004; and longtime 

regular Rick Eckert broke 

through for his first crown in 2011 

after a dramatic battle with 

Richards that was decided on the 

final lap of the season. 

Two local stars who follow the 


are Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller 

both of whom list their hometowns 

as Watertown, NY. As stated earlier 

McCreadie was crowned the 

World of Outlaw Late Model 

Champion in 2006 and was named 

Rookie of the Year in 2004 while 

Fuller has yet to win a title with the 

series but was crowned as Rookie 

of the Year in 2007. McCreadie 

has a total of 22 “A” Main feature 

event wins on the series including 

two this season while Fuller has 12 

“A” Main wins on the series none 

of which came so far this year but 

he does have a total of three top five 

finishes so far this season.

Clanton with 2,526, Darrell Lanigan

Lucas Oil Late Model Series competed 

at the Fonda Speedway with 

Jimmy Owens winning both of 

those events.

The rollcage he installed in it came from the rusted pipes of a boat dock, and 

he towed it to the track using an ambulance and an open trailer made out of 

planks and an old mobile home frame… Received guidance early in his racing 

career from legendary New York big-block Modified driver ʻBarefootʼ Bob Mc- 

Creadie, the father of 2006 WoO LMS champion Tim McCreadie… In May 

1995, quit his job working 3,100 feet underground in a zinc mine to become a

Friesen records modified win 



FONDA — The heavy rain that 

drenched the Fonda area on Thursday 

and Friday threw a curve ball 

into track conditions 

for all of the 

racers on Saturday 

evening but 

the Fonda Speedway 

track crew did a great job to 

even get the track race ready for the 

Saturday evening racing program. 

When the checkered flag flew to 

complete the modified feature event 

defending track champion Stewart 

Friesen was in victory lane for the 

fourth time this season and the 14th 

time in his career at the Track of 

Champions and he gave a lot of 

credit to the Fonda track crew. 

"It was a very demanding race 

track tonight but the track crew did 

an amazing job to get it ready for 

racing tonight as they needed to get 

the show in," Friesen said. 

Other winners at Fonda on Saturday 

were Chris Schaffer (1st career 

win in the 602 sportsman division), 

Pete Broderson (pro stock), Rob 

VanAernam (street stock), Ken Hollenback 

(single cam 4-cylinder), and 

Shaun Ryba (dual cam 4-cylinder).

top spot on lap two after starting 

alongside Boehler on the front row. 

A.J. Romano started the event in the 

sixth position and on lap three got by 

Boehler for the second spot. Three 

laps later the top two cars of Gleason 

and Romano were a straightaway 

ahead of third-place runner 

Alton Palmer. 

Jeremy Wilder and Friesen who 

started 14th made up the top five in 

the event by lap 12 with Friesen 

going between the lap car of Ed Harris 

and Wilder for the fourth position 

one lap later. The yellow flag was 

out on lap 17 and on the restart the 

red flag was thrown after Danny 

Varin ended up on his roof in turn 

four with Todd Morey also involved. 

Varin was not injured but 

was very disappointed as he was 

running 10th after starting 26th. 

On the next restart, Friesen took 

the third position away from Palmer 

and a short time later was the new 

second place car after getting by 

Gleason on lap 18. Romano held a 

comfortable lead at that point but 

was showing signs of smoke as he 

raced in lap traffic with Friesen closing 

in quickly. With seven laps remaining, 

Friesen was right on the 

rear bumper of Romano but despite 

the smoke coming from his car Romano 

did not let off the gas. 

With five laps to go in the event 

Friesen made a bonsai move under 

Romano in turn four and made contact 

with Romano but let off allowing 

Romano to recover and hold on 

to the lead at that point. Romano was 

three wide between lap cars to hold 

on to the lead on lap 26 but one lap 

later there was nothing slowing 

Friesen's progress as he got by Romano 

in turn four for the lead. 

Friesen went on to his second win 

in a row over Romano, Jeff Trombley, 

Matt DeLorenzo, and Gleason. 

In victory lane, Friesen dedicated 

the win to Bill Anagnostopulos from 

the Winners Circle who passed 

away earlier that day. 

"This one is for Bill and his family," 

Friesen said. "He was my extra 

motivation tonight."

Schaffer picks up first career win 



FONDA — Drew Fallis took the lead from 

Kurtis Hohensheldt on a lap two restart in the 

602 sportsman feature event and by lap four was 

a straightaway ahead of second-place 

runner Chris Schaffer 

with both trying to negotiate 

lap traffic at that point. 

Schaffer was up to the rear 

bumper of the race leader Fallis by lap nine and 

at the halfway point in the 20-lap event the top 

five consisted of Fallis, Schaffer, Mark 

Mortensen, Adam McAuliffe and Dave Constantino. 

Constantino started the event in the 11th position 

and on lap 12 was the new fourth-place car 

with the yellow coming out on lap 16 for last 

week's winner Ricky Quick who came to a stop 

in turn two. On the restart the red flag was out for 

Shea Montgomery who was on his roof in turn 

two. He wasn't injured but was done for the night 

at that point. 

On this restart Schaffer took over the lead and 

held on the rest of the way for his first career win 

in the division over Fallis, Constantino, McAuliffe 

and Rocky Warner who started the event in 

the 19th position. With the win, Schaffer was the 

seventh different winner in the division in seven 

events. 

“I am so excited I really don't know what to 

say,” Schaffer said in victory lane. “A few weeks 

ago, I was leading and had carburetor failure 

which was very disappointing but tonight Drew 

(Fallis) kept leaving me a hole on the bottom of 

turn four and I said if he leaves me that again I am 

going to take it. On the restart, he did that and I 

was able to get by him for the lead and the win.”

Broderson earns pro stock victory 



FONDA — The pro stock feature 

began with Luke Horning as 

the race leader but before the lap 

was completed 

Jim Normoyle 

had taken over 

the race lead with 

Horning involved 

in a wreck after he and Nick Stone 

got together in turn four collecting 

other cars in the process. Also involved 

were defending track champion 

Pete Broderson and Kenny 

Gates who were both able to continue 

on at the rear of the field. 

On the restart Kenny Martin Jr. 

was the new race leader with another 

yellow out on lap six with 

Broderson already up to the fourth 

spot. At the halfway point, Broderson 

was the new second place car 

behind Martin and when Martin 

slid up high in turn four on lap 12 

Broderson and Normoyle were both 

able to get by him for positions one 

and two. 

Normoyle pressured Broderson 

over the remaining laps but Broderson 

went on to his third win of the 

season and the 12th of his career at 

Fonda over Normoyle, Martin, 

Gates and Dave Emigh. 

“We were hoping to go out with a 

bang as I have to have shoulder surgery 

this week and may not be back 

the rest of the year,” Broderson said 

in victory lane.
