Due to the inherent dangers to the public, the police officer involved and
to the offender, when the choice is made to initiate a vehicle pursuit of a
violator, the Wilmette Police Department has clear-cut policy and
procedure guidelines for pursuits. Frequent discussion and review of
these policies and procedures occur during shift briefing and in-service
training sessions. Newly hired officers receive a written copy of the
policy along with tactical driver training.
