Statutory annual report 2010-11 | 7 Message from the Mayor The City of Rockdale is a city of opportunities, strong local communities, a home to natural beauty and provides many tourism and lifestyle opportunities. We look forward to a vibrant future and I am proud of what we have accomplished. I am delighted to present this important document, our Annual Report. This report is for you; I encourage you to review it and see how we as a Council have used local knowledge for the benefit of our community. You will see how the strategic directions that your elected Councillors put in place have been met and the highlights of our achievements. The report reflects our financial responsibility which ensures our local community flourishes and grows for the benefit of those who live, work and play here. Council recognises that the greatest asset in the City of Rockdale is its people. Council takes pride in our culturally and linguistically diverse communities and the life that they bring to our City. This report reveals we are one of the most culturally diverse regions in Sydney and demonstrates how we have responded to that diversity. Our libraries and our City’s events are catering to the wide range of cultures in our community. We honour our communities with the civic ceremonies that occur over the year. Council recognises the need to make a safer city hence we have funded the Safer City Programme, targeting community safety, graffiti and other vandalism. Our CCTV programme is growing and we are assisting businesses with safety audits. We continue to help residents and businesses with better transport plans, our programs are aimed at increasing the viability of town centres. We look to our future and place great value in the youth of our city by supporting their activities and ensuring a better City for tomorrow through ongoing environmental programmes. Council’s highly awarded team of dedicated staff stand behind building a better City. I welcome your feedback to Council.
