Trends over the past
8 years show that an increasing proportion of
new freshmen are satisfying
Communication A prior to matriculation at UW‐Madison (Chart 2). In 2002 64% of new freshmen were
required to take a Communication A course before graduation compared to 57% in 2009. The increase in
the proportion of students matriculating with the Communication A requirement already satisfied is due
primarily to increases in participation in Advanced Placement
and International Baccalaureate exams.
