Beyoncé’s Half-time show by Jess D’Vaz One of the main reasons the Super Bowl was watched this year was because many were curious to see Beyoncé perform at the half-time stage. As many would agree, not only did she rock the stage but she owned it and stole the show away from the football being played. After the game I couldn’t tell you who even played because I only remembered Beyoncé's spectacular performance. Not only was she extremely entertaining but it brought excitement when “Destiny’s Child” had a mini reunion on the stage as her former band mates Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland joined her. Many rumors before the performance circulated about the Queen Bee lip singing like she did with the national anthem. When asked about the rumors she responded "I will absolutely be singing live," she said ahead of Sunday's performance. "I am well-rehearsed. This is what I was born to do." And she certainly didn’t disappoint the crowd and it was a great distraction for the 49ers' distraught fans. Not only did this leading lady prove her talent and passion, she was showed that Beyonce is back and really she never really left. Beyoncé dominated the Superbowl half-time show. ENTERTAINMENT by Renee Berger Saba and her twin brother Lugh have lived their whole lives at Silverlake with their father and younger sister Emmi. They have never had contact with any other people. Her whole life Saba has always looked to Lugh for guidance , but one day, everything changes. Robed men on horseback appear at their isolated home, and kill her father as well as kidnap Lugh. Saba promises him that she’ll do whatever it takes to save him. Her world has been turned upside down and she is thrust into the harsh reality that exists outside Silverlake with nothing but her will to survive. This marks the beginning of her quest to rescue her beloved twin brother Lugh. Along the way Saba encounters many hardships but manages to overcome every obstacle. She also discovers many things about herself: she is a fierce fighter, an extraordinary survivor and not someone to be messed with. In the end she allies with a mysterious man named Jack and a group of female rebels called the Freehawks to stage a by Kolby Zinger-Harris When it was announced that Disney had bought LucasFilm and that they would be producing a seventh Star Wars film, the whole fandom went into a state of distress. Then, when “Star Trek” director JJ Abrams confirmed that he would be directing the film, Star Wars fans went haywire once again; they asked whether JJ Abrams could restore the franchise to its former glory or if their worst fear, sharing with trekkies, had been realized. JJ Abrams has made a very good name for himself in Hollywood. Having started out in television with shows such as “Lost” and “Alias,” he segued smoothly into the film world with movies such as “Mission Impossible III” and “Cloverfield.” The young writer/director has proven himself capable in the Science Fiction field, having not only written the screenplay for “Armageddon,” but also for writing and directing “Super 8.” Most notably, Abrams revived “Star Trek” in 2009 and is currently producing and directing the sequel. This is why he initially denied he would be directing “Star Wars VII” when rumors started flying. Unwilling to cause conflict, he was reticent about taking over both Star Trek and Star Wars. However, it would seem that producer Kathleen Kennedy managed to win Abrams over anyway. “I learned firsthand how incredible and persuasive she is,” he commented. Furthermore, Kennedy said that Abrams was also excited to work with “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” writer Michael Arndt. 18 MARCH 6, 2013 CENSOR THIS Blood Red Road Review showdown that may change the course of society, all to rescue Lugh. Does she succeed? You’ll have to read the book to find out. Blood Red Road is action packed and doesn’t lack in the surprise department, it is quite the page turner. Moira Young does an excellent job of telling the story and her writing style is very unique. I admit the book is hard to get into because it is written in a Southern drawl but it is worth it in the end. This is one of my favourite books and I suggest you read it as well! Blood Red Road follows the epic battle of Saba to save her kidnapped twin brother. Photos contributed by Goodreads and Scholastic. JJ Abrams – May the Force Live Long and Prosper Reputable director JJ Abrams is set to direct next Star Wars film. Photo contributed by TechnoBuffalo. Abrams has now officially beaten other prospects, such as Ben Affleck, for the director’s chair. “Star Wars VII” is certainly becoming a very big project, bringing in many original players such as writer Lawrence Kasdan (screenwriter, “Star Wars: Episode V” and “Star Wars: Episode VI”), actor Harrison Ford, and with actors Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill in talks to return as well. Rumors still fly concerning the return of poster artist Drew Struzan, composer John Williams. George Lucas will act as a creative consultant, but will not be directly involved on set. All in all, the team is looking good right now with Kennedy and Abrams taking the lead. In the end, only time will tell whether “Star Wars VII” will be a great accomplishment or a complete bust.
Grad Semi Formal by Mary Bunka Grad Council deviated from the KSS norm with a fun carnival theme for the semi-formal, held on February 13. The MPR was completely transformed, and not in the typical “crepe-paper party” way that school dances usually command. There was a ten-foot-high DJ stage and a light up dance floor, which set the stage for an amazing night. Although, for many the highlight of the night was the food—popcorn, cotton candy, and cream puffs galore. Though some thought the music was a bit off for a school dance (Really? Only two slow songs?) most agreed that it was an excellent opportunity to show off their dance moves. (And their backflips—we’re looking at you, Tyson Markewich.)
