PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Greetings! It is my extreme pleasure to
welcome you to the 2012-2014 Sitting Bull
College (SBC) Bulletin. Within this Bulletin
you will find the academic documents
necessary to assist and guide you as you
begin and proceed through your higher
education journey here at SBC.
Since the last Bulletin, the SBC Family
have all moved onto our new campus and
are enjoying our beautiful new
surroundings. It is exciting to be in a new
facility and the students have shown their
appreciation by respecting and taking care
of THEIR new SBC campus.
Our most popular programs include nursing, business administration, environmental science,
and Lakota/Dakota language restoration. SBC is among several TCUs that are making
tremendous strides to restore and teach our native Lakota/Dakota language. We are also
working closely with our K-12 schools to assure students have an early start in learning
the Native language. During the fall of 2012, an Immersion Language Nest for three-year olds
was started through a collaborated effort with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Education
Department. This total Lakota/Dakota language immersion classroom environment is preparing
and teaching the young participants to speak, write, and appreciate the Lakota/Dakota
Language. We are extremely excited to be a part of this coordination and feel confident
that because of the work we are doing in this area, the amount of Lakota/Dakota Language
fluent speakers will increase on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.
Currently, we are looking forward to and preparing for a North Central Association visit during
the fall of 2013. During this visit we will be requesting three Master's programs. The Master's
programs are in business administration, education, and environmental science.
We continue to be committed to you, our students. We thank you for choosing SBC for your
higher education journey and we promise you that we will continue to make "you" our students
our priority.
Best wishes on your higher education journey.
Pilamayea,
