<strong>Objectives</strong><br />
The major objective of the Psychology Department is to provide a broad based curriculum<br />
program in the discipline of psychology and to develop within the student an<br />
understanding and appreciation of the lawfulness of behavior. To this end, the Psychology<br />
Department offers relevant courses for the undergraduate student who plans to<br />
enter business, education, community agency work, or other professional areas and who<br />
desires a scientific understanding of human behavior; and, the graduate student who<br />
needs a basis of scientific psychology for the pursuit of graduate professional programs or<br />
seeks an applied program in clinical/health psychology.<br />
Bachelor of Arts<br />
The major requires 36 hours of course work in psychology, which must include PSY 150,<br />
201, 220, and 301. The University Liberal Studies Program, a minor of 18 hours, and electives<br />
to complete 125 semester hours are required in addition to the major. A two- year<br />
college level proficiency in a language other than English is also required. This degree<br />
may also be earned under the provisions of an Extended Major, Dual Major, or Merged<br />
Major as outlined in this catalog.<br />

The major requires 36 hours of course work in psychology, which must include PSY 150,<br />
201, 220, and 301, and an 18-hour minor, the University Liberal Studies Program, and<br />
electives to complete 125 hours. This degree may also be earned under the provisions of<br />
an Extended Major, Dual Major, or Merged Major as outlined in this catalog.<br />

MINOR IN <strong>PSYCHOLOGY</strong>: Requires 18 hours of psychology including PSY 150.<br />
CONTENT EMPHASIS FOR EDUCATION MAIORS IN <strong>PSYCHOLOGY</strong>: Requires 15 hours<br />
of psychology including PSY 150.<br />
PSY: <strong>PSYCHOLOGY</strong> COURSES<br />
PSY 150 Introduction to Psychology (3). Science of psychology including history of psychology,<br />
maturation, learning, thought processes, sensation, perception, physiology, motivation, emotion,<br />
personality, and intelligence.<br />
PSY 20t Introduction to Research and Statistics (4). Basic concepts of experimental design and<br />
statistical analysis involved in psychological research. 3 hrs lecture and 2 hrs. lab.<br />
PSY 220 Principles of learning (3). Methods, principles, applications, and theoretical issues of<br />
learning. Prerequisite: PSY 150.<br />
PSY 301 Experimental Psychology (4). Introduction to scientific methodologies as used in<br />
psychological research including student projects in conducting research. 3 hrs. lecture and 2 hrs. lab.<br />
Prerequisite: PSY 150, 201.
