The Asian Business Association (ABA) Annual Dinner brings together
guests from a range of industries and is the premier gathering in the
Asian business calendar. Open to Asian and non-Asian businesses, this

Hear from our Guest of Honour Mervyn King, Governor, Bank of
England and President, Chance to Shine
Mervyn King is Governor of the Bank of England and Chairman of the
Monetary Policy Committee. He is representing Chance to Shine, of
which he is President, a charity that helps change lives through involvement
with competitive cricket in state schools. Professor King will share with
us his insights and anecdotes gained from a lifetime's love of cricket and
how his charity Chance to Shine is making a real difference to millions
of children in the UK in some unexpected ways.

We are delighted that Chance to Shine will receive all monies raised
from the evening’s charity auction and raffle. If you would like to

EDUCATING THROUGH CRICKET
Chance to Shine has already reached one million children since 2005
and is expected to have a direct impact on the lives of two million boys
and girls in a third of state schools by 2015. The programme currently
runs in over 3,000 state schools nationwide and in 2010 alone saw
350,000 boys and girls enjoying the benefits of competitive cricket.

THE ASIAN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
The Asian Business Association (ABA) of the London Chamber of
Commerce and Industry is the voice of Asian business in the capital.
It campaigns on issues directly affecting Asian businesses within London's
business community and encourages development through publicity and
networking opportunities.
The ABA calendar of events comprises networking lunches, receptions and
an annual dinner held at impressive venues throughout London.
The events attract high-level speakers and audiences from both Asian and
non-Asian businesses.
The media partner for the ABA Annual Dinner is Asian Media
& Marketing Group (AMG).
The Committee for the ABA meets four times a year to discuss the policy
and lobbying activities, as well as the events’ programme. For more information

Mervyn King
Governor, Bank of England and President, Chance to Shine
Mervyn King is Governor of the Bank of England and is Chairman of the
Monetary Policy Committee. He was previously Deputy Governor from
1998 to 2003, and Chief Economist and Executive Director from 1991.
Born in 1948, Mervyn King studied at King’s College, Cambridge, and Harvard
(as a Kennedy Scholar) and taught at Cambridge and Birmingham Universities
before spells as Visiting Professor at both Harvard University and MIT. From October 1984 he was
Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics where he founded the Financial Markets
Group.
Mervyn King is a Fellow of the British Academy, an Honorary Fellow of King’s and St John’s Colleges,
Cambridge and holds honorary degrees from Birmingham, City of London, Edinburgh, London Guildhall,
London School of Economics, Wolverhampton, Worcestershire, Cambridge and Helsinki Universities.
He is a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is on the
Advisory Council of the London Symphony Orchestra.
A devoted cricket fan, Mervyn King is President of Chance to Shine, a charitable appeal that aims to
bring cricket to state schools that he started with Mark Nicholas in 2005. Mervyn King is also a Patron
of Worcestershire County Cricket Club and, in 2009, organised a match for Chance to Shine at New
Road, Worcester. Bowling slow left arm from the Diglis End, he finished with figures of 1-23 in the match.
He has now retired from playing cricket, having achieved his best bowling figures of 7-49 playing for his
school in 1965. He claims the record for the longest period between five-wicket hauls, having next
reached the milestone in 2003, with 5-15 for Lord Kingsdown’s XI against The Old Stagers.
Mervyn King is an avid supporter, and former Vice-President, of Aston Villa Football Club. He plays
tennis, and has partnered Martina Hingis and Peter Fleming. He is a member of the Committee of the
All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
