THE NAD T743 – A HOME THEATRE RECEIVER FOR SURROUND
SOUND AND STEREO MUSIC LOVERS
31 August 2004
NAD, a company that needs no introduction to audiophiles, now introduces an
advanced Home Theatre receiver that delivers optimum performance for its audio and
video features – the T743. Boasting 5.1 channels of 50 watts to support the newest
surround sound formats from Dolby and DTS, and 70 watts per channel (ref 8ohms)
in stereo music mode, the T743 offers modest and yet ample power to satisfy today’s
listening environments.
As soon as the NAD’s T743 circuits detect a surround format, like Dolby Digital and
DTS, the most advanced decoding is instantly switched on. Conversion of the
decoded digital bit-stream is performed with high resolution and extremely linear D/A
converters carefully selected for their performance capabilities. As a result, the
surround sound music and sound effects have a more natural and musical rendition.
As an enhanced surround sound receiver, the T743 also boasts the company’s highly
regarded music surround sound technology EARS, or Enhanced Ambient Recovery
Circuit technology. Unlike typically enhanced DSP modes like ‘club’ or ‘stadium’,
EARS uses DSP technology to extract the natural ambience to create surround sound
from any 2-channel source.

Five independent A/V presets can store speaker level and tone control settings for
instant recall, making it easy to custom tailor your system for different types of
program material. The T743 also remembers the last used settings when switched in
and out of Stand-by Mode.
To make this a true lifestyle product, a second pair of speakers can simply be added to
the front channel amplifiers and switched on or off from the remote control or front
panel switch. In addition, pre-amp outputs allow for additional amplifiers to be added
to the system. The T743 also features 12-volt triggers to automatically switch
auxiliary equipment such as curtains and drop down screens etc.
NAD has taken special measures to keep set-up operations as logical and
straightforward as possible. A clear and simple On-Screen Display facilitates initial
set-up, and all settings are then stored in non-volatile memory. The front panel display
indicates complete information about the source being listened to or watched,
including selected surround mode and volume settings.
A newly designed HTR-2 remote handset features illuminated buttons for easy
operation in low light environments. The HTR-2 can easily be ‘taught’ commands of
other remote controllers and the Macro function allows you to program up to 44
macros with as many as 64 commands each. For example, when watching a DVD, all
the commands required are executed automatically by the HTR-2’s Macro function.
The T743 has all the flexibility required to serve as the command centre for a
sophisticated home theatre system. A full suit of video switching caters to all popular

video formats including: Component Video, S-Video, and Composite Video. Digital
inputs are also provided in both coaxial and optical formats for direct connection to all
digital sources for playback and recording. In addition, the T743 features 30 favourite
station pre-sets that can be custom named.
About NAD
NAD entered the audio industry in 1972 and the company’s philosophy is equally
relevant today as it was then - to design and develop great sounding audio equipment.
Over the years NAD has received many awards and accolades making it somewhat of
a ‘legend in the hifi world’. While featuring the latest stylish finish titanium for
several of the models, many of the company’s products continue to have the simple
charcoal grey front panel of the ‘classic’ NAD component look. A design that is
unassuming, however when it comes to performance NAD products are anything but
unassuming.
With its headquarters in Ontario, Canada, and manufacturing and distribution partners
in Europe and South East Asia, NAD is a global company. Currently, NAD designs
Home Theatre and stereo products that extend from 2-channel amplifiers through to
CD and DVD players, CD recorders, to complete custom installation amplifiers.
The NAD T743 is covered by a nationwide two-year warranty, has an RRP of $999
and is available at selected NAD dealers. For further information on this and other
