Madagascar
Madagascar is one of the most diverse and interesting
countries you will ever visit. Its isolation from the African
continent has ensured a unique fauna and flora as well as
an amazing human cultural heritage. Its jungles teem with
extraordinary wildlife exemplified by the lemur and the
fosa – both peculiar to Madagascar.
Its unique geology from the rainforests on the east of
the island to the dry spiny forests in the South, and the
Tsingy in the North West make
for wonderful opportunities for
pioneering adventures. Along
Madagascars endless coastline
there are world class opportunities
for diving, surfing and sea kayaking
or simply to relax on one if its many
stunning beaches.
Pioneer have identified a range
of adventurous activities from
trekking through dense tropical
jungle to kayaking and rafting
some of Madagascars largest rivers.
Responsible Tourism
Everyone who travels to Madagascar with Pioneer are
contributing towards a unique community reforestation effort
run by Pioneer Expeditions. We fund a school tree nursery and
orchard near Itlavana. This is a long
term project which aims to plant over
2000 trees every year, as well as
provide fruit for the children in the
local school. We invest 2% of every
trip cost to help fund this and you
can include a visit to this project as
part of your Madagascan itinerary
or even spend time ‘volunteering’
to help develop the Tsarasoa
community project.

Small Group Adventures
Every year we organise a number of scheduled small group
expeditions.
These trips are active and often involve getting really off the
beaten track with a few nights spent camping en-route, whether
desending a river, or trekking through a dense rainforest.
If you are a solo traveler, a couple, or a group of friends looking to
join some like-minded individuals on an adventure of a lifetime,

Nature Guided Trips
Our nature guided trips have been designed with more emphasis
on seeing the endemic fauna and the unique flora offered.
Visiting the most popular National Parks, as well as some off the
beaten track, you will be accompanied by a local English speaking
naturalist guide. We run a number of scheduled nature guided
trips every year which you can join, but we are equally happy
designing a private trip. So if your passion is to see an aye-aye, a
fosa or a Madagascan cuckoo-roller in the wild, we can create an
itinerary to suit.

looking for a short extension for one of our existing itineraries, a
