Lacrosse: Junior Mike Crampton was named
the Air Force lacrosse MVP for the 2013 season.
Crampton, a second-team All-ECAC selection
on attack, led the Falcons’ offense with 53
points, including a team-best 34 goals. His 34
goals were the most in a single season for an Air
Force player since 1998, while his 53 points were
the most for a Falcon since 1994. Crampton finished
the year ranked among the nation’s leaders
in points and goals per game. He also reached
the 100-point career plateau with his personalbest
11 points in a win at Mercer, becoming just
the fifth Air Force player in 20 years to reach the
mark.
Golf: Junior Kyle Westmoreland won the team
MVP award for the second consecutive season.
He led the team with a 71.8 average per round,
ranking second in the Mountain West and on
AFA’s single-season list behind Tom Whitney’s
school-record 71.7 in 2009-10. Westmoreland
won the Jackrabbit Invitational with a 15-under
par 201, the second-best three-round total in
school history. He also fired a career-best 65 in
the third round. After tying for second at the
PING Cougar Classic and eighth at the Mountain
West Championships, Westmoreland was
selected to play in the NCAA Southwest Regional
Tournament, where he finished in a tie for
36th place out of 75 golfers.
Men’s Tennis: Senior Lance Wilhelm earned his
fourth consecutive Most Valuable Player award
this season. Wilhelm, who became just the second
player in program history to win four MVP
awards, led the Falcons with 21 overall singles
wins, including a 15-7 record at the No. 1 spot.
He defeated three nationally-ranked opponents
and was named All-Mountain West in singles
and doubles for the second straight season.
Women’s Tennis: Senior Hannah Dake finished
second on the squad with 20 overall singles victories
and tied for first with Melissa Cecil with 25
doubles wins. The duo’s 25 wins were the most
MIKE KAPLAN
Cale Simmons sprints before pole vaulting in a February
track and field meet. Simmons earned the MWC outdoor
title and All-American honors.
in one season since Kate Bushey and Christine
Abayan had 29 in 2005-06. Dake was selected to
the all-Mountain West doubles team and posted
two fall tournament victories with Cecil (Minnesota
Invitational and FIU Panther Invitational).
Men’s Track and Field: Cale Simmons reset his
own Academy records in the pole vault, captured
the conference outdoor title and earned All-
America honors for the third time in his career
during the first six months of his senior season.
Breaking his own Academy outdoor record with
a clearance of 18’4¾” at the Clyde Littlefield
Texas Relays, Simmons became the Mountain
West’s all-time leader in the pole vault. Pacing
the Falcons to five of the top-seven placements
at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships,
Simmons captured his second straight outdoor
title. The senior team captain also broke his own
program indoor standard with a clearance of
18’2” at the Air Force Team Challenge.
Women’s Indoor Track and Field: (as of 21 May
2013) Jen Bremser broke two Academy records
during her senior season, including one that had
stood since 1990. With a record-setting time of
9:40.73, Bremser cut over one second from the
previous record that Callie Calhoun had held
since 1990, as she recorded the program’s best
finish in any individual running event at the MW
Indoor Championships (second). The senior,
who broke her own Academy record in the 3000-
meter steeplechase twice this season (10:26.31),
became the program’s first-ever all-conference
selection in that event.
Men’s Track and Field Outstanding Competitor:
Zach Perkins capped off a strong sophomore
season with his second Mountain West title of
the year. Crossing the finish line in a winning
time of 3:44.38, Perkins set a new MW Championship-meet
record in the 1500-meter run at
the outdoor meet and moved into third on the
program’s all-time list. His win in the 1500 came
less than three months after winning the mile at
the MW Indoor Championships by two seconds.
His best mile time of the season, a 4:05.12 (altitude)
at the New Mexico Classic, is the seventhfastest
time in program history.
Women’s Track and Field Outstanding Competitor:
Annette Eichenberger had a stellar junior
campaign, making her impact in six different
event categories. During the indoor season,
Eichenberger recorded the second-fastest 800-
meter time in Academy history (2:09.80), while
running on the Academy’s fastest distance
medley relay (11:24.78) and the second-fastest
4x400-meter relay (3:50.04). She followed up the
outdoor season with the third-fastest 800-meter
time (2:06.63) and debuted on the program’s alltime
list in the 1500-meter run (4:28.54, sixth)
and 400-meter dash (57.01, eighth).
