3.3. Speleoclimatology<br />
Through analyses of speleothems from limestone<br />
caves on the Peleponesse, past changes in regional<br />
climate will be reconstructed and compared with<br />
the information on development of past societies,<br />
in order to understand the role of climate in the<br />
rise and demise of past cultures.<br />
4. International Collaborations<br />
At <strong>NEO</strong>, scientists from all over the world meet to<br />
conduct frontline research, develop new tools and<br />
methods, as well as for exchanging knowledge<br />
and ideas. Among current collaborators are<br />
National Observatory of Athens and University<br />
of Patras, Greece, Cornell University and Purdue<br />
University, USA, Geological Survey of Israel and<br />
University of East Anglia, UK<br />
5. Educational Programs<br />
In addition to the research at <strong>NEO</strong>, emphasis is<br />
given to the education and training of graduate<br />
students and new researchers. Furthermore<br />
special courses and field excursions for<br />
undergraduate students are organized.
