On campus, from its base in the USC Annenberg School for Communication, the Lear Center builds bridges between schools and disciplines whose faculty study aspects of entertainment, media and culture. Beyond campus, it bridges the gap between the entertainment industry and academia, and between them and the public. Once it’s in the hands of consumers, what rights do they have to change it? Headed by Lear Center senior fellows David Bollier and Laurie Racine, the Creativity, Commerce & Culture project explores the new digital environment and the impact of intellectual property rights on innovation and creativity. The project is funded in part by a generous gift from the Center for the Public Domain, a non-profit foundation that supports the growth of a healthy and robust public domain by establishing programs, grants and partnerships in the areas of academic research, medicine, law, education, media, technology and the arts.
