New features § Migration from RTOS to Linux has been a major driving force behind Linux “real-time” enhancements (RTAI, RTLinux, Preempt_rt) but never took off § Major contributions in 1996-2005 (real-time, preemption, hires POSIX timers, power management, kgdb, XIP, etc) § Some embedded features came from nonembedded vendors like jffs2 sponsored by RedHat § Innovation continues – recent examples: CMA, AF_BUS, etc COGENT EMBEDDED ALS 2013 TOKYO 6
