Substitution Petition Process <strong>for</strong> IBEP and IMBA Students<br />

(All <strong>area</strong>s must be completed attached prior to submission to Academic Services)<br />

For Concentrations<br />

Complete the attached Substitution Petition Form<br />

1. List your entire <strong>concentration</strong> sequence under the “Concentration Sequence” <strong>area</strong> including Chicago Booth<br />

<strong>course</strong>s you have taken and/or plan on taking in order to fulfill the <strong>concentration</strong>’s requirements.<br />

‣ Example: Strategic Management: 34102, 42001, 31304<br />

Note <strong>for</strong> IBEP Students<br />

If <strong>petition</strong>ing an IBEP <strong>course</strong>, reference (<strong>course</strong> #) 31304 in sequence.<br />

Note <strong>for</strong> IMBA Students<br />

If <strong>petition</strong>ing an IBEP <strong>course</strong>, reference (<strong>course</strong> #) 31304 in sequence.<br />

If <strong>petition</strong>ing an approved UC <strong>course</strong>, reference 4‐digit department code and <strong>course</strong> number (ex: LAWS 75201) in<br />

sequence.<br />

2. Attach a no more than three paragraph rationale detailing:<br />

Why you believe the <strong>course</strong> should be approved towards the <strong>concentration</strong>.<br />

Previous academic and professional background.<br />

3. Include a copy of the <strong>course</strong> description (if available) as well as the syllabus and/or reading list.<br />

For IMBA International Business (IB) Requirement Sequence<br />

Complete the attached Substitution Petition Form<br />

1. Check the “IB Requirement” and list the substitute <strong>course</strong> proposed to meet the requirement.<br />

‣ Example:<br />

International Business (IB) Requirement Sequence<br />

List proposed sequence (<strong>course</strong> #): 33501 or 33502, ________, _________, ________, _________<br />

Note: Reference (<strong>course</strong> #) 31304 in sequence <strong>for</strong> IBEP <strong>course</strong><br />

2. Attach a no more than three paragraph rationale detailing:<br />

Why you believe the <strong>course</strong> should be approved towards the Required Area (you may wish to include<br />

references to the <strong>course</strong> description, syllabus and/or reading list.; and<br />

Previous academic and professional background.<br />

3. Include a copy of the <strong>course</strong> description (if available) as well as the syllabus and/or reading list.<br />

Completed Documentation<br />

Students should submit completed <strong>for</strong>m and <strong>required</strong> documentation to Academic Services:<br />

o In person, HC 122;<br />

o By fax, 773.702.4155; or<br />

o By email, AcademicServices@lists.ChicagoBooth.edu.<br />

Advisors will <strong>for</strong>ward your <strong>petition</strong> to the <strong>area</strong> faculty member <strong>for</strong> review and email the faculty’s decision when<br />

it is received.<br />

Petitions are generally decided upon within 7‐10 business days of submission by the program office.<br />

Submission Deadline<br />

Petitions must be received in the appropriate program office by the Friday, week 3, in the quarter of<br />

graduation.
