An Introduction to Darkness
(an excerpt from Endless Cosmic Orgasm: DarkRoom Retreat for Lucid Living,
Lucid Dreaming, and Lucid Death)
Guided by Tao Grand Master Mantak Chia
Tao Master Mantak Chia’s
DarkRoom Retreat was an experience
inspiring Dolphin-
Ology author Wake Breathe
Love to start his next exploration.
Wake was formerly known
as Bret Carr. In 2006, Awareness
Magazine featured his
movie, RevoLOUtion, on the
cover. RevoLOUtion was an
experiment following a boxer
getting over his stutter by using
gestalt psychodrama during
violent street fights.
Nine years later, this director
went into the dark to heal
a year-long psychosis from a
plant medicine trip. He came
out with Divine visions and,
having seen the subtlety of the
mind and cosmos, is now remixing
the movie with fight
scenes replaced by interviews
with Eastern masters and saints.
This is an excerpt from his new
book, Endless Cosmic Orgasm,
co-written with New York Times
bestseller Mantak Chia, who
guided Wake through 12 days
of complete darkness.
Wake added 100 pages from
Master Chia explaining how
natural DMT (the death hormone)
releases in the dark,
allowing Divine visions and
lucid dreaming during day and
night. The authors explore how
the dark promotes the pituitary
and inner alchemical sexual
energy stimulation to heal organs
and prepare the body for
final separation: the most important
moment of life.
An Introduction
to the Darkness
Cave-dwelling and darkness
appear in every faith as a route
to enlightenment. Today they
are rarely encouraged, except
in places of extreme devotion.
MASTER CHIA EXPLAINS
“All spiritual traditions have
used Darkness Techniques in
the pursuit of enlightenment.
In Europe, the dark room often
appeared in underground
form as a network of tunnels, in
Egypt as the Pyramids, in Rome
as the catacombs, and by the
Essenes (near the Dead Sea in
Israel) as caves.
“In Taoist tradition, caves
have been used through the
ages for higher-level practices.
In the Tao, the cave, the Immortal
Mountain, the Wu San,
represent the Perfect Inner Alchemy
Chamber. Meditating
and fasting in the cave is the
final journey of spiritual work.
“Caves are the Earth Mother
and its energy lines. Like the
hollow bones, caves contain
the earliest information of life
stored inside the Earth. Caves
contain the vital essence of
the Earth Power. The Tao says,
‘When you go into the dark
and this becomes total, Darkness
soon turns into light.’
“In the Darkness, our mind
and soul begin to wander freely
in the vast realms of psychic
and spiritual experience. When
you enter this primordial state
or force, you are reunited with
the true self and divinity within.
You literally “conduct” the universal
energy. You may see into
the past and the future, understand
the true meaning of existence,
and begin to understand
the order of things. You return
to the womb, the cocoon of our
material structure and Nature’s
original Darkness.
“Complete darkness profoundly
changes the sensory
sensibilities of the body/brain.
We are deprived of all visual
reference. Sounds begin to fall
away as we lose contact with
the external world and turn the
senses inward. The effect of
darkness is to shut down major
cortical centers in the brain
centers. Emotional and feeling
states are enhanced, especially
the sense of smell and the finer
senses of psychic perception.
Dreams become more lucid,
and the dream state manifests
in our conscious awareness.
Eventually, we awaken within
ourselves the awareness of
the Source, the spirit, the soul.
We descend into the void, into
the darkness of deep, inner
space.”
DEATH HORMONE – DMT
After days in the dark, the
brain naturally secretes (and rebuilds)
the Death Hormone
DMT, so dangerously pursued
by Western seekers through
plant drugs.
DMT removes the filter of
the brain used to survive during
the day, and allows the
cosmos to shine through, literally:
revealing the same Violet
Lights of Spirit which play
as star fields equal to the star
field of a glorious night sky.
ROMANCE & FREEDOM
FROM PRISON OF SENSES
Yes... and then as the romance
with the cosmos continues,
through Taoist meditation
techniques, visions of crystalline
pulsating eternity dance
in a sign of intelligence, visitation,
and slow introduction to
a world that lets us know death
is safe. Death is safe, and perhaps
navigable, for those who
want a more connected passage
after this dream of life
quickly fades, seemingly leaving
most of humanity, perhaps
not so randomly, in a prison of
sense-memories determining
their fate.
What bigger purpose, to
share, which would bless my
dharma, 1 I would welcome to
know.
1
dharma: highest mission of service
to others, given a particular set
of life circumstances.
PLANT MEDICINE
SAFETY OF DEATH
ROMANCE WITH COSMOS
After a year and six months
of celibacy, following a psychosis-inducing
plant medicine
overdose/poisoning, difficulty
sleeping, and being haunted
by visions of terror, you can
imagine what a respite it was
to have all my questions answered
by lights in the dark.
Terror melted as it became
clear that death is safe. Love
shared with a potential partner
became possible in a different
way from what I had
ever previously experienced.
That is, not making the other
into a god-object, unable to
fulfill Western romantic ideals
of perfection, but someone
to collaborate with, as practices
are refined into making
union with the cosmos; making
love, literally, with the stars
and planets, and especially the
Violet Light, which you too can
see after only a few days in the
dark. This is the endless cosmic
orgasm.
