5. Part-time Higher Education <strong>Student</strong>s<br />
If you are on a part-time higher education course (Higher National or Advanced Diploma),<br />
you can apply to ILA Scotland on 0808 100 1090 for an application form to apply for a grant<br />
of £500 which will help towards the cost of your tuition fees. The grant is for study-related<br />
costs, so your benefits should not be affected. Open L earning students can apply.<br />
You must<br />
• be 16 or over to apply for this grant.<br />
• be studying 50% or over of a fulltime course. Your application form must be endorsed<br />
by the college.<br />
• have an income of less than £22,000 per year.<br />
• be living in Scotland. However, there are no time limits on how long you have been<br />
living in Scotland to receive this grant as long as you are resident in Scotland before the<br />
start of your course.<br />
• Previous Study will not affect a students’ application. For example you can hold an<br />
HNC and still be eligible for this grant to study an HNC course part time.<br />
6. Support Funds (Discretionary Fund)<br />
Both non-advanced and Higher Education students in receipt of fee wavier can apply for<br />
help with a grant, not a loan, towards some of the costs of:<br />
• child care • travel • accommodation<br />
• books and equipment • disability • living costs<br />
Application forms will be available from Reception.<br />
7. Disabled <strong>Student</strong>’s Allowance<br />
Apply to SAAS for non means tested help with expenses arising because you have become<br />
a student if:<br />
• you have a disability and<br />
• you are on a higher education part-time course which is equivalent to at least 50% of a<br />
full-time course.<br />
Open Learning students can apply.<br />
SECTION E – Other funding available for <strong>Student</strong>s<br />
1. Tax Credits<br />
If you are responsible for at least one child you should be able to claim Child Tax Credit.<br />
If you work more than 16 hours per week, you may be able to claim Working Tax Credit.<br />
