The main reason for targeting these key areas was <strong>to</strong> reduce the number of unnecessary calls that<br />
<strong>RBFRS</strong> attend <strong>to</strong> make better use of the time available for additional community safety campaigns and<br />
training. Figure 13 compares the operational activity levels of pumping appliances between fire and<br />
rescue services of a similar size.<br />
The figure below shows that <strong>RBFRS</strong> appliances are busier compared with fire and rescue services of a<br />
similar size. Other than the large Metropolitan fire and rescue services, <strong>RBFRS</strong> has some of the busiest<br />
fire appliances in the country.<br />

Therefore, the focus in the initial <strong>IRMP</strong>s was <strong>to</strong> reduce unnecessary calls such as false alarms and hoax<br />
calls <strong>to</strong> free up time in order <strong>to</strong> redeploy operational resources in<strong>to</strong> community safety, training and<br />
preventive activities.<br />
