Muir, by <strong>the</strong>n promoted <strong>to</strong> Lieutenant-Governor <strong>of</strong> North-Western Provinces, chose not <strong>to</strong> respond when challenged ei<strong>the</strong>r by 'modernist' or came<br />

'conservative' Muslim presses; nor did he modify later editions <strong>of</strong> his own his<strong>to</strong>ries <strong>to</strong> take any account <strong>of</strong> Muslim objections.
