<strong>Strategy</strong> <strong>Statement</strong> <strong>2008</strong> – <strong>2010</strong> | <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Defence</strong> & <strong>Defence</strong> Forces<br />
Develop and maintain a capability planning process and multi-annual<br />
equipment and infrastructure plans. In line with the Programme for<br />
Government, ensure that investment in the <strong>Defence</strong> Forces continues to<br />
grow, with the full commercial value <strong>of</strong> all defence property disposals to<br />
be invested in capital projects and new equipment<br />
Pending publication <strong>of</strong> the new White Paper on <strong>Defence</strong> as set out in<br />
the Programme for Government, we will continue implementation <strong>of</strong><br />
the current White Paper and seek to advance the recommendations <strong>of</strong><br />
the Review <strong>of</strong> the White Paper (April 2007). Many <strong>of</strong> the<br />
recommendations in the Review are now included in the Pay Agreement<br />
and Modernisation Agenda for the <strong>Defence</strong> Forces, agreed in the<br />
context <strong>of</strong> Towards 2016.<br />
Emergency Planning – continue to provide the necessary supports to the<br />
Government Task Force on Emergency Planning, chaired by the Minister<br />
for <strong>Defence</strong> and the Inter <strong>Department</strong>al Working Group on Emergency<br />
Planning; oversee the Emergency Planning arrangements in Government<br />
<strong>Department</strong>s and public authorities under their aegis; co-ordinate the<br />
publication <strong>of</strong> an annual review <strong>of</strong> emergency plans; continue the<br />
annual programme <strong>of</strong> major simulated exercises and support sustained<br />
public awareness and reassurance.<br />
CORPORATE AND SUPPORT SERVICES<br />
DECENTRALISATION<br />
We are committed through the mechanism <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Defence</strong> Decentralisation<br />
Implementation Group (Military/Civilian) to implementing the Government<br />
decision on decentralisation. This is being progressed as quickly as possible in<br />
conjunction with the Office <strong>of</strong> Public Works (OPW). We will support<br />
Government policy in implementing energy-efficient and environmentallyfriendly<br />
initiatives and will take the opportunity afforded by the provision <strong>of</strong><br />
new buildings under decentralisation to implement these initiatives in<br />
consultation with the OPW.<br />

The <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Defence</strong> and the <strong>Defence</strong> Forces are fully committed to<br />
