FLORIDA
Florida ranks number one for many things - Orlando is synonymous with
capital theme parks - from the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World
Resort and Universal Studios to SeaWorld Orlando and Legoland Florida.
Palm Beach is the top vacation destination in the US, seasonal home of
many powerful billionaires and business magnates it’s a playground for
the rich and famous, with world-class golfing, tennis, equestrian facilities
and shopping. Last but certainly not least is Miami, well-known for its
fabulous beaches including the famous South Beach, and for trendy
nightlife, the Art Deco district, Calle Ocho and Little Havana. As such, this
aptly named Sunshine state doesn’t just have something for everyone, it
has a great deal for everyone.
WHATS ON
February brings ‘Florida State Festival’, where over 86 shows and
rides can be enjoyed at the southeast’s largest fair. Enjoy an array
of musical performances and stage shows from the neighbouring
Caribbean Islands at the Tampa Festival in June. Guavaween, also
in Tampa, is not to be missed, come October this event brings
Halloween festivities that you won’t find anywhere else.
HOW TO GET THERE
British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and American Airlines fly daily
from London Heathrow to Miami. British Airways fly 6x per
week into Tampa from London Gatwick. British Airways fly from
London Gatwick to Orlando five times a week during the winter
and daily during the summer. Virgin Atlantic flies to Orlando from
London Gatwick (daily), Manchester (6x per week) and Glasgow
(twice per week) From June 2015, Virgin Atlantic will also operate
from Belfast – Orlando, once per week in June and July.
WHEN TO TRAVEL
There is no “bad time” to visit Florida as it boasts warm temperatures
and sunshine year round with an average yearly temperature of
28ºC. Winters can be milder but remain sunny while summers are
warm with occasional short showers.
