Mining
A holocrystalline quartz-bearing, plutonic rock. Quartz makes up
10 to 50 percentage of the minerals in a granite.
A basic, generally dark-colored igneous rock mainly composed
of pyroxene and/or amphibole and feldspars like labradorite or
bytownite.
The measurement of gravity or gravitational acceleration,
especially as used in geophysics.
Minerals with a density more than 2.95 g/cm 3 . Heavy minerals
are used in certain geochemical surveys and as a geochemical
exploration method.
Hot (> 375°C) aqueous fluid of metamorphic, magmatic or
geothermal origin. Certain ores are formed by hydrothermal
processes.
Said of a rock or mineral that solified from molten material,
i.e. from a magma.
A rock or mineral that is economically mineble. It can be used
directly or in an insdustrial process.
Molten rock-matter together with dissolved gas and vapour.
Magmatic rock is a rock originating from a magma.
A technique of applied geophysics: a survey is made with a
magnetometer, on the ground or in the air, which yields local
variations, or anomalies, in magnetic-field intensity.
A linear structure which can be seen on a magnetic map, either
high magnetic or low magnetic in relation to the surrounding.
A common iron-oxide mineral (Fe 3 O 4 ). Important mineral for
extraction of iron.
Metal-bearing.
A group of silicate minerals which split into thin elastic laminae
and range from colorless to black. Mica is commonly found in
granites.
A mass of naturally occurring mineral material, e.g. metals ores or
nonmetallic minerals, ususlly of economic value without regard to
mode of origin.
The process of extracting metallic or nonmetallic mineral deposits
from the earth.
Molybdenite The most common molybdenum-bearing mineral (MoS 2 ).
Monazite
Moraine
A mineral containing rare earth metals.
A Quaternary deposit, chiefly till, deposited by direct action of
glacier ice.
