– x is a parent of an ancestor of y.<br />

We can generalise this: “ancestor” is the<br />

“ancestral” relation of “parent”.<br />

Reid’s s problem can be avoided if personal<br />

identity is based not on direct memory, but<br />

on its ancestral relation, “memory chains”.<br />
