SCARS OR STARS
Mr. Akhilesh Jena, B. Tech. 5th Sem.
Did you ever wonder that what was the idea of flying like in the 19th century? It was as practical as going for a long
drive to Jupiter in your car nowadays. But could that stop the Wright brothers from giving WINGS to their imagination
and turning the same into reality??? Or did Copernicus stop believing and putting into writing that the earth revolved
round the sun just because the Church opposed it?? No. And this was because of the firm self-confidence of these people.
No matter what others said they pursued their DAY-dreams and gave shape to them.
But do you think these were possible only because they were normal and fit human beings who dared to think beyond the
imagination of their generation? Absolutely not. There are also some others who, though were not as fit as the Wright
brothers or Copernicus, contributed a lot the human race. They were the real DIFFERENTLY-ABLED.
Just think. Do you need eyes to see? Or ears to listen? Or legs to lead? Not necessarily. You may always have SCARS
and yet change them into your STARS for a better future. It depends on whether you take your disabilities as SCARS or
STARS.
Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the greatest music composers humanity has ever got, was unbelievably deaf. He continued
his composition and finally gave some of the best symphonies. And today, you can find one of his symphonies in sample
music of your laptop. Is not that great?
Next John Milton. He was one of the pre-eminent writers in the English language. He was the most fantastic nature poet.
One needs to appreciate the beauty of nature to transform it into poetry. And he was very successful in that. But a minute
anomaly is that he was BLIND. Can you imagine a blind man writing poetry on nature? Such was his astonishing ability.
He was able to sketch the nature on the canvas of his imagination and then give life to it by use of words. No doubt the
poems by him are regarded as the best pieces of nature poetry ever written.
And again, does a leader need to have legs to lead? This was the case of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the
United States. He suffered from paralysis below his waist. But then, did it stop him from being elected for a wonderful four
terms in the White House which no other American president has ever served? He led America in the times of economic
crisis and World war while on his wheel chair.
All these and many more have turned their SCARS to STARS by putting the God Matter (also popularly known as
MIND) at work. I called it God Matter because if GOD created us, IT created the concept of God. No matter what
disability a man has, he can convert it into a marvelous ability by letting ideas bloom in his mind. Not just letting them
bloom but also nurturing them. Only then will the flowers of the mind bear the sweet fruits to satisfy the hunger of
humanity and for which the humanity will be grateful to YOU.
