actinides such as U, Am, Th, <strong>and</strong> Ac in the lungs<br />
<strong>CANBERRA</strong>’s combination Actinide Lung <strong>and</strong> Scanning Whole Body Counter<br />
is designed to monitor actinides in the lungs <strong>and</strong> fission <strong>and</strong> activation<br />
product in the whole body<br />
Both of these systems require a total enclosure or 4 π shield in order to<br />
reduce the ambient background sufficiently to monitor for the low energy, low<br />
activity <strong>and</strong> low gamma abundance actinides<br />
