• The <strong>Port</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Tyne</strong> has a purpose-built<br />

cruise terminal at Northumbrian Quay.<br />

• The main River <strong>Tyne</strong> channel<br />

is maintained to a depth <strong>of</strong> 10m,<br />

allowing vessels up to 9.5m to enter<br />

without restriction.<br />

• Pilot services are available 24/7.<br />

Three tugboats (70, 42 and 43 tonnes<br />

pull) are available. Additional tugs can<br />

be arranged with reasonable notice.<br />

• Spring tide range 4.3m, neap 2.1m.<br />

Current at mid tide generally 1-1.5 knots.<br />

• Vessels over 350m have been handled<br />

previously on the River <strong>Tyne</strong>, but the<br />

practical limit is the 360m diameter<br />

turning circle at Jarrow (3.5 miles from<br />

the sea) which allows vessels up to<br />

300m to be swung by tug.<br />

• Some waste handling facilities are<br />

included in the standard port charges<br />

and extra available if required.<br />

• Security facilities are high security<br />

(ISPS Restricted Area).
