Rehabilitation<br />

* Tlie Central British Fund for Tamil Refugees Rehabilitation<br />

(C.B.F.T.R.R.) is an incorporated national and overseas charity<br />

established in 1979.<br />

* The purpose of its establishment is to relieve poverty amongst<br />

persons of Tamil race or origin whose mother tongue is Tamil<br />

and in particular to relieve poverty amongst such persons who<br />

are displaced or refugees or victims of war and disturbances<br />

or oppression and the families and dependants of such persons.<br />

* Soon after the 1977 pogrom although assistance came from<br />

the Government and other organisations initially in the running<br />

of the Refugee Camps, no funds were available for Rehabilitation<br />

of the Refugees. This led to the formation of the<br />

C.B.F.T.R.R.<br />

* Since its inception, C.B.F.T.R.R. has assisted in the settlement<br />

of the Refugees in Tamil Homelands through Gandhiyam and<br />

Tamil Refugees Rehabilitation Organisation of Sri Lanka.<br />

* In the July 1983 pogrom, over 150,000 persons were rendered<br />

refugees and C.B.F.T.R.R. was able to release Rs. 600.000 for<br />

programmes aimed at providing immediate relief to the Victims.<br />

* Collected and sent over 6,000 books on all aspects of education<br />

for the Jaffna Public Library.<br />

* Established the Tamil Information Centre and internationallised<br />

the Tamil problem.<br />

* Currently involved in Rehabilitation programmes aimed at<br />

.helping refugees in Tamil Homelands in Sri Lanka.<br />
